What's the worst thing someone could do?
Hate.

What's the worst thing someone could do to you?
To me, personally? Trap me.

What's the worst thing that could happen to you?
Annihilation.

What's the worst thing someone could say about a person?
That they were worthless.

What's the best thing someone could say about a person?
That the person loved, and was loved.

Are men and women basically different?
In what sense? Physically, of course. Emotionally and mentally -- sure, to a certain degree, bearing in mind cultural context. But at a most basic level, everyone's just a person.

Which is better, to be a woman or to be a man?
[laugh] I've never been a woman, so how can I say? I'm pretty sure it's neither, though.

What can men do that women can't do?
Again, obviously there are physical differences. Men can . . . well, in today's world, men can do a lot more than women. We still get the best jobs, for instance.

[smile] But nobody holds doors for us.

What can women do that men can't do?
Give birth, which is an important enough physical difference that it bears mentioning.

Is it possible to change genders?
. . . That's an odd question. I'm inclined to say no.

How old is old enough to have sex?
In a perfect world, whenever both partners are emotionally mature enough to understand, consent, and deal with the potential consequences. I don't know how old that might be.

In this world, on the other hand, anything younger than about fifteen seems ill-advised to me.

Is it wrong to have sex if you're unmarried?
No, not if it's there's an emotional commitment.

Is it wrong to have sex with someone other than your spouse if you're married?
Yes. You've promised to be faithful, and breaking that promise is wrong.

Is it wrong to have sex with a person of the same gender?
[long, thoughtful pause] Have you heard of something called AIDS? It stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Until last year they were calling it GRID -- Gay Related Immune Deficiency, and before that it was "gay cancer." Some people are claiming it's a punishment from God for having sex with a person of the same gender.

But I can't believe that. For one thing, I don't believe disease is a punishment from God, not any sort of disease. What can a six-year-old child have done to deserve a deadly illness?

Sorry, I'm getting off track. Is it wrong to have sex with a person of the same gender, right? Obviously some people think so. But, well, if you love each other, how can it be wrong?

Is it wrong to have sex with a person of a different race (or a different intelligent non-human species)?
. . . You're joking, right?

Different species seems ill-advised, even assuming biological compatibility, unless both parties are clear on what they're getting into.

Is it wrong to have more than one sexual partner at the same time?
I think so. How can you be committed to your partner if you're splitting your attention?

Is it wrong to have sex with someone you don't love?
Yes.

What are the responsibilities of a mother toward a child?
To raise it -- make sure its needs are met -- and then to provide a moral and emotional base for the child.

What are the responsibilities of a father toward a child?
Same answer. To be there for the child.

What are the responsibilities of a child toward a parent?
When the time comes, a child has the responsibility to return his parents' care. Before that, though -- to show appreciation, to be a person worthy of his parents' love. To not abandon them.

Which should be more important to you, your parent or your child?
Your child.

Which should be more important to you, your parent or your spouse?
. . . I don't know. Spouse, I think, but I don't know.

Which should be more important to you, your child or your spouse?
Child.

Why aren't there any questions about siblings?

Is it wrong to have a child if you're unmarried?
Not if you're capable of caring for it -- financially and emotionally.

Is abortion wrong?
Yes. Except in some fairly specific cases.

Is contraception wrong?
No.

Is there one true religion?
[laughs] Just one? Of course not.

Does a deity or deities exist?
Oh, certainly.

How important is it to believe in a deity or deities?
That depends on how much you want from them, I suppose.

How important is it to actively practice your religion?
Define religion. [Religion, defined as an organized belief system.] I can't make a blanket statement on that. For me, personally -- well [laughing] I don't really have a specific religion at the moment. I have a set of beliefs, and it's very important to me follow those beliefs, but none of them involve organized rites or specific practices.

Does magic exist?
Define magic. [Power from a supernatural source.] Supernatural, meaning above nature, or other than normal, right? I mean, in that case, magic is simply power that we can't explain yet. Right? And that certainly exists. The binding forces of an atom are still a mystery, and some of their properties probably always will be.

But . . . [thoughtful] There are some things in the universe that no amount of science will ever be able to explain.

Yes, magic exists.

Is practicing magic wrong?
No more than practicing anything else is. If it's used for evil purposes, then yes.

Is killing always wrong?
Yes. But sometimes it's necessary.

Is war always wrong?
Yes. And I don't think there are many cases where you could claim that it's truly necessary.

How old is old enough to fight in a war?
When one is emotionally mature enough to understand what's going on. Eighteen's the legal age, but I'm not sure that's old enough for most people.

Is rape always wrong?
Yes.

Is torture always wrong?
Yes.

Is theft always wrong?
I can think of circumstances where it wouldn't be. [wry smile] Fire from the gods.

Is slavery wrong?
Yes.

Is lying wrong?
Yes, but I can think of circumstances where it would be necessary, or where it might be the lesser evil.

Is swearing wrong?
[grin] If it is, my roommate and I are in trouble.
